Felting Workshops
Wet & Needle Felting Classes in Leeds
Create, connect, and craft with wool at one of our relaxing felting workshops at Northlight in Chapel Allerton Leeds.
Felting is a slow, sensory, and deeply satisfying art from - perfect for anyone who loves tactile art and is looking to unwind and relax. We host workshops in both wet felting (with water and soap) and needle felting (using barbed needles) to sculpt, shape, and design with wool.
This ancient process is simple yet magical: as you layer, shape, and gently agitate the wool, the fibres bond together to form sculptural vessels or textured landscapes, depending on the workshop.
You’ll learn hands on techniques from experienced felt artist Janine Jacques and artist and educator Lydia Rain in a supportive and inspiring setting. Whether you’re a total beginner or looking to refine your skills, our workshops are a fun, creative escape and you’ll go home with beautiful felted pieces to treasure.

In week one, you’ll learn the wet felting process, using soft merino wool, warm soapy water and friction to create your own poppy field artwork. Janine will guide you step by step as you lay out the fibres, build colour and texture, and transform loose wool into a finished piece of felt.
In week two, you’ll return to your dried felt picture and add finer detail using needle felting. You’ll learn how to use a special barbed needle to work additional wool fibres into the surface, adding texture, definition and extra detail to your poppies, grasses, sky or landscape.
Each finished piece will be completely unique. You can follow the poppy field theme, or, if you prefer, use week two to create a new needle felted piece inspired by your own landscape image or one provided on the day.
This course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience. All materials and equipment are provided, and Janine will be on hand throughout with individual guidance and support.
