INVISIBLE NO MORE

Art, Menopause, and the Power of Personal Narrative

Menopause is often framed as a medical condition rather than a profound stage of identity transformation. This important exhibition challenges this limited perspective, using art to explore the complexity, creativity, and emotional depth of midlife.

Female artists examine themes of transition, resilience, and self-definition. Works explore the evolving dynamics of motherhood, intergenerational knowledge, the consequences of medical misrepresentation, and the lasting impact of trauma. From intimate mixed-media pieces to research-driven installations, each artwork contributes to a wider conversation about visibility, representation, and the value of lived experience.

The artwork in this show contributes to a wider conversation about visibility, voice, and valuing women’s lived experiences in midlife and beyond.

“At 50, I understand how powerful, complex, and creative midlife can be. Yet women’s voices and lived experiences, especially around perimenopause and menopause, are often overlooked. Traditionally, menopause has been framed mainly as a medical or biological event, ignoring its deeply personal, emotional, and cultural significance.

Invisible No More: Art, Menopause, and the Power of Personal Narratives, draws on recent feminist scholarship that recognises menopause as a vital stage of identity transformation. Through art, this project aims to create space for the creativity and stories of women in midlife, challenging their underrepresentation in public cultural spaces such as galleries and museums. “
